Full Version: I want to install LEDs, but...

I need help in knowing which wires go where, and I need it laid out step-by-step. I have no electrical wiring skill whatsoever. I purchased some Alpena FLEX LED and DRIVE LEDs. I will show you what they look like, as well as my headlight wire configuration. Let me know where I should be hooking up my wires, as well as letting me know where to clip the t-taps (and maybe a lesson on how to do it properly, too). Actually, for now, I'm most concerned with figuring out how to install the DRIVE LEDs (they're the ones that go on the grille of the car). They have the ability to light up sequentially with the turn signal, so I'd like to install these alongside the turn signal lights. If possible, I'd like them to just be on with the parking lights at all times too, but if both aren't possible, I'd rather the sequential light-up along with the turn signal. Pic is below. As you can see, there's a red wire, a yellow wire, and a thick black wire. Which wires go where? Here's my headlight configuration:

Driver's side:
Top Left - Yellow
Bottom Left - Green
Top Middle - Green
Bottom Middle - Black
Top Right - Red
Bottom Right - Black

Passenger's side:
Top Left - Blue
Bottom Left - Pink
Top Middle - Green
Bottom Middle - Black
Top Right - Yellow
Bottom Right - Black

Thanks in advance! Smile

The first thing you need to do is get the free owner's account with Kia Global Information System (KGIS). One warning, it only works with IE. There you will have access to all TSBs and Recalls, and the biggy, the entire service manual. This way you can find the wires you need to connect to. Then, because it's not easy to instruct someone over the internet that has no electrical knowledge, FIND SOMEONE LOCAL THAT HAS KNOWLEDGE! The cars of today have smart electrics and without knowledge in what you are doing can open a money pit that will swallow you up.
I go on the same way of Itsaruck ... very touchy if you don't know what you're doing.

for the leds you bought, pretty sure that the black is ground, the red is 12V continuous, and the yellow seems to be the turn signal.

If you want them to light with your parking, you need to wire them up with the green (driver) or pink (passenger) wire beside the black one on your connector. Turn signal wire is just above the parking wire (green/pink one I just mentionned) so Yellow/Orange (driver) or blue (passenger)

But you should do test with a battery alone to check your led module wiring and what it really does.

Internet is what it is ... difficult to help when we don't know the configuration of the product you purchase Sad

Good luck
