An assumption? Actually, we don't count recalls as repairs unless the owner noticed the problem before learning of the recall.

true, but it still goes into the dealers' books, and, in my experience, its counted as a "repair"

I thought you were referring to my survey results. I guess you were talking about a count of the number of cars in dealer service bays.

mkaresh we're just discussing the surveys, personal observations, and forum inputs...not attempting to argue with you about your surveys. I work in quality assurance and know that primarily disgruntled customers are the most vocal and will make the extra effort to report their experiences. Those that find the service/product acceptable, or even outstanding, tend to keep quiet -- they don't want to make an extra effort to let their experience be known. Just the way it is...

I like my Kias with their 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty!

What you say is definitely true. This is why I designed the survey the way I did, to collect data going forward and require continuous participation over time, not an immediate one-time response or only participation when people are most inclined to respond.

The results on the linked page support the effectiveness of this approach:

Notice that for some models fewer than one-in-ten owners have reported a repair during the past year. In other words, with this system many people respond even when they've had no repair to motivate them.

RE: Kia Forte reliability - better info, ASAP
We have an updated reliability stat for the Kia Forte based on owner experiences through December 31, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of next car.

With a reported repair rate of 35 repair trips per 100 cars per year, the Forte is now better than average.

Thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August.

RE: Kia Forte reliability - better info, ASAP
We have an updated reliability stat for the Kia Forte based on owner experiences through September 30, 2011.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2011: 77, small sample size

2010: 45

Both are about average, though the 2011 borders on "worse than average."

Thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates later this month and in May. With more participants, we could provide more precise results and cover all model years.
