Brake operation/performance in 6-spd

Brake operation/performance in 6-spd
I've been used to driving 300-HP heavy cars for the last 10 years, all with automatic transmissions.

I just havent seen a big need to downshift when coming off the expressway (I coast a bit then brake 50-75 feet in), and it doesnt feel like I'm stressing the brakes at all.

I dont ride the clutch a lot (never had to replace a clutch in my life on any car ive owned...I drive quite differently than others in a manual trans) and I have no problem doing mechanical work, would rather do a brake job than a clutch job...and brake pads are cheap.

Do you think I'm possibly heating up the brakes to a point (or might in some conditions) where they'd fail? Very hot brakes wont grab, but its even hard to simulate that.

Maybe I'm worried over nothing

Current original mods I'm working on:
1. iPod dock for console from an aftermarket iPod cable
2. Mood Lighting - one color (done)
3. Mood lighting - multi colors (done, trying to rework to make it cheap)
4. Exterior lighting front (secret) parts on order
5. Exterior lighting (secret)
6. Exterior lighting (secret)
7. Illuminated front badge (different design)
8. Push-to-change-color LED dome lamps (use plans from #3)
9. Removing silver SX rim inserts (someones already done it, looks great!)
10. Rewiring fog lamps to stay on with brights (dimmuborgir91 beat me to it)

Some pros reviewer tested the koup on Icar (a close circuit on an old airport) and they say that they where not able to cook brake even after several hard lap!!!
You might be over worried here!
I do agree with you on the cheaper the break pads than a clutch!!

I usually buy organic pads, too...they really take the abuse instead of the rotors...but more dust, and some companies stopped making them altogether.

Thanks for the reassurance!

don't smoke your brake pads, got it! Tongue

and no, the car is 3k lbs, it'll take a hell of a lot more than stopping your car to overheat our four wheel disc brakes. they over did the brakes for performance reasons, they are larger than necessary. most didn't even expect the car to come out with 4 wheel disc, they expected 2 drums on there.

RE: Brake operation/performance in 6-spd
when u first get the car from the dealer u have a break in period for the brakes also ! not just the motor/transmission! its like any replacement brakes, u need to drive smooth and not rushing on the brake like hell the first 150-200kms after that its ok ! just be progressive, that's one reason why I dont take a car that have over 40kms on the clock when I bought brand new cause its was tested hard by X numbers of customers before Tongue

ps:' for the next buyers from albi kia in mascouche, dont get the black sedan sx at the dealer cause Ive tested it really hard ! heheh Big Grin
