falls on its face in 3rd gear
wondering if anyone else has the same problem I do...when I wind in out in 1st and 2nd it has plenty of torque and picks up fine...when I shift into 3rd gear it tends to lag for about 2 seconds before picking back up and pulling hard again...not sure if this is a problem with my clutch, or the gear it self, or maybe the DBW (Drive by Wire) sensor...if anyone else has this problem let me know any info you might have about it...thanks
I have the 2.4L 6 speed manual koup BTW...just bought it 3 days ago and it has 505 miles on it 2012 FORTE KOUP SX

RE: falls on its face in 3rd gear
We've got the same problem on both our sedan and koup. Although, our Fortes are the 2.0s w/ 6sp A/T. I hear Royal Purple is good for fixing that kinda thing. Anyone else have input?

RE: falls on its face in 3rd gear
so im guessing its a problem with all the forte transmissions, I havent gotten any more info on this problem and the kia dealership where I purchased it, the technicians are fucking retards...no disrespect to any technicians but these techs shouldnt be working on cars...but I would really like to figure out this problem because it is very annoying when your racing down the track and you lose because 3rd gear wont fucking hold it together for just 2 seconds in the begginning and by the time it picks back up....ITS TOO LATE!
IF ANYONE CAN GET SOME INFO FROM ANY SORCE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW...SEND ME A PM OR EMAIL OR POST A REPLY ON HERE...THANKS 2012 FORTE KOUP SX

RE: falls on its face in 3rd gear
so Im thinking that the problem is that the gear itself is to tall....because in 3rd gear i can reach almost 115 mph at readline (6800 rpm) thats a really tall gear. so im thinking that the hesitation when you shift is the RPMs dropping low and causing lag because it cant stay in its power band...but once it reaches 3-4000 rpm it picks back up and hauls ass! not sure how this can be fixed except with nitrous or a turbo lol...so I guess we all have to get use to it...oh well. im still very happy with the car!

RE: falls on its face in 3rd gear
SO....I have found out from some people I talked to from Road Race Motorsports http://roadracemotorsports.com/store/ that adding the Light weight under drive pulley that it will clear up the 3rd gear lag that all fortes seem to have, it reduces the recipricating weight of the crankshaft enough that it can spin fast enough to get rid of the 3rd gear lag...I have ordered the pulley to see if its gonna work, I will post my results as soon as I get it and test it out. here is the link for the light weight pulley from roadrace motorsports.

RE: falls on its face in 3rd gear
While I'm not audioextremez, I did add the RRM lightweight pulley to my 2010 Koup SX manual. It absolutely helped that drag you feel immediately shifting into third gear; now it just feels the same as shifting into fourth or fifth. Other than that, I haven't noticed the other benefits it's supposed to have, such as improved MPG.
The lighter weight pulley really helps smooth out *all* gears when shifting at higher RPMs, but third gear is especially improved anywhere on the tach. I'd hate to drive my car without it, but keep in mind I have the SX 2.4L engine. The next paragraph applies only to manual transmissions; automatics have identical gear ratios across both SX and EX. The EX 2.0L engine does have a very tall third gear: 1.294 vs. 1.696 on the SX. I'd literally need to skip third gear and go to fourth to achieve roughly the same effect with the SX. So, with a smaller engine comes taller gears to increase MPG, which is mostly what the EX was geared towards as KIA's base model compact. tl;dr, if you have a 2.0L engine, third gear is designed to drag, but the pulley will help slightly. 2.4L engines are able to more or less eliminate third gear drag completely using the pulley. |

RE: falls on its face in 3rd gear
I have the pulley installed (2.4 SX 6speed MTX hatchback) and yes it makes a difference but will not completely make drag disappear. If you want to do that, get the pulley a few bolt ons and the most important thing... A tune. Drive by wire sucks, but all cars pretty much have this now so tune is the best way to get rid of any random dead spots this car.
also, i assume you took care of the lazy pedal problem by moving the actuator on the acceloration pedal forward so it responds faster. again, a drive by wire issue... |
