Exclamation HUGE problem last night with engine...any one else has this problem?
Last night I was racing a new VW....and things were going well off the line...then when I shifted into 2nd gear and began to continue to accelerate all of the sudden the traction control light came on and stopped accelerating.

I have a Koup SX 6 speed.

Any thoughts on what the problem is? Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks......

What were the road conditions? It will happen if wheels are slipping. Thats my only feedback. This has happened to me on the hiway covered in ice, its a little un nerving as a shift of movement on ice causes sliding. I generally disable it when I know it will be a hazard.

If traction wasn't the cause, a bad wheel sensor can also cause this.

Yeah happened to me too. Traction control seems to cut the RPMs like mad when it sees any wheel spin. Embarassing...

but I remembered to turn it off before racing a Mustang GT. Sure he beat me, but heck I kept up with him! Short run, and he launched on me (I didnt really think he was going to race, neither of us challenged each other, otherwise I would have launched on HIM)

Current original mods I'm working on:
1. iPod dock for console from an aftermarket iPod cable
2. Mood Lighting - one color (done)
3. Mood lighting - multi colors (done, trying to rework to make it cheap)
4. Exterior lighting front (secret) parts on order
5. Exterior lighting (secret)
6. Exterior lighting (secret)
7. Illuminated front badge (different design)
8. Push-to-change-color LED dome lamps (use plans from #3)
9. Removing silver SX rim inserts (someones already done it, looks great!)
10. Rewiring fog lamps to stay on with brights (dimmuborgir91 beat me to it)

I thought that button was for electronic stability control (esc)? Is there even a way to turn off traction control or are these the same things? I don't think they are.

It may control both. I know for a fact that it disables traction control.

I haven't tried it yet on the kia but on my mazdaspeed3 you turn the esc off by pushing the button once whenever and the traction light would come on. If you held the button down before you started the car, you would turn esc and traction control off and two lights would come on. Not sure if its the same on the kia or how to verify it though.
