Oil Change ?'s
So im no where near 3k and i was curious when i hit around that mark
should i use Kia filters? or some other type? and what kind of oil is best for engine longevity? i could care less if my MPG drops 2mpg? i just want to keep my car going for as long as possible? also kia oil? or someother type?

RE: Oil Change ?'s
While you're under warranty, I'd highly recommend using Kia filters to avoid any possible warranty complications you can face if your engine fails and they try to go the route of 'aftermarket oil filter flow restriction", which I've seen happen to several Mazda owners.

I'm a big proponent of high quality synthetic oils due to their superior ability to resist cold thickening and heat-related sludge and varnish deposits. It's all I use...even in my lawn mower. Mobil 1, Penzoil Platinum and Valvoline SynPower are excellent oils.

ok so Kia filter! and what type? including weight? becuase after browsing the forums i see there is an argument between 2 oils... one kia says to use... and another to make the engine last longer?

I would (and do) use 5W-30. It's good for all operating conditions according to the owner's manual.

RE: Oil Change ?'s
Theres a 5w20 vs 5w30 oil discussion in another thread...I dont see the difference. 5w is 5w oil in thickness...but what do I know? I'm not a chemist.

My cousin is a chemist for Pennzoil, I'll shoot him an email

Current original mods I'm working on:
1. iPod dock for console from an aftermarket iPod cable
2. Mood Lighting - one color (done)
3. Mood lighting - multi colors (done, trying to rework to make it cheap)
4. Exterior lighting front (secret) parts on order
5. Exterior lighting (secret)
6. Exterior lighting (secret)
7. Illuminated front badge (different design)
8. Push-to-change-color LED dome lamps (use plans from #3)
9. Removing silver SX rim inserts (someones already done it, looks great!)
10. Rewiring fog lamps to stay on with brights (dimmuborgir91 beat me to it)

RE: Oil Change ?'s
Proponents of 5W-20 oils are all about saving that .02 mpg. I don't know if the Forte is spec'd for 5W-20, and if it's not, don't use it. If it's listed as an acceptable weight in the owner's manual, go for it.

I th9ought my owners manual said 5w20. AMSoil recommends 5w20 too, so thats what I bought (I think? I gotta check)

You are correct, the recommended viscosity is 5w-20.

I like my Kias with their 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty!

They also recommend 5-30 and 10-30. I think there's a chart to use that compares your driving conditions vs average climate.
