wheel well noise
hey all. just picked mine up a few days ago. my only complaint thus far is road noise when driving over roads with gravel/salt. sounds like someone is in the back seat shaking around a coffee tin with rocks in it. anyone else find this annoying?

i do plan to pick up some splash guards (P/Ns "1MF46 AC000" & "1MF46 AC100"). guess i'll find out if this helps at all.

RE: wheel well noise
yep! seems like the tires grab every pebble, small rock and sand and throws them into the wheel well, which acts like a tumbler. Can't wait for spring so the street sweepers can clean the roads of all sand and debris.

RE: wheel well noise
We should get one of these aftermarket production folks to come up with something. The rock noises are so annoying. I have the mudflaps.. it definatly does not solve the issue!

RE: wheel well noise
There needs to be some sort of undercoating applied within the wheel wells, methinks. That would deaden the sounds.

RE: wheel well noise
hrm. well at least i know now that it's not only me. i wonder if rhino liner, the spray rubber lining used for truck beds, would work well enough to be worth it. i think the noise is annoying enough for me to give it a shot. i'm at least going to find a local shop that does rhino lining and see what they say.

I think rhino lining, line-x or anyother major brand would help a lot.

RE: wheel well noise
My last car had some material fastened to the inside of the rear wheel wells that looked like outdoor carpet, which acted like a sound deadener and impact absorber. I'm considering applying a thick layer of rubber undercoating, letting it cure, and then using some epoxy to fasten some black outdoor carpet to the inner wheel well. The factory undercoating is very thin in my wheel wells.

RE: wheel well noise
after doing some searching, i came across this 3m undercoating stuff.

will probably order some and give it a shot. i'll report back with the results. the weather here is getting better though; i don't expect the gravel and whatnot to be on the road much longer. so kind of poor timing for testing.

RE: wheel well noise
Be careful of your curing time. If that stuff is still tacky when you go for your first drive, you'll line your wheels wells permanently with gravel. Kia actually managed to do that to my car. The undercoating they sprayed near the bottom of my wheel wells is littered with rocks and they won't come out.

Sounds like excellent advice. Thanks. I'll apply it in the evening and let it sit overnight. Kia took care of this for you? I called my dealer to ask about this and they said all they could do for me is install mudflaps.
