RE: Trip Computer Upgrade
lol, I wonder if that would work here in the states...

"Officer, I wasn't texting, I promise. My iPhone is my car's trip computer."

"Sure it is, I've heard that one before. License and registration."

"I'm not lying to you, sir. Here, watch this." (turn ignition over to start guages).

"SIR, TURN OFF THE CAR AND KEEP YOUR HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE THEM." (into radio): Officer requesting backup...

"If you would just look at the phone..."

"I SAID TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. NOW, GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND PUT YOUR HANDS ON THE HOOD."

"Wait, what? I don't understand what's going on here."

"SIR, I AM NOT GOING TO ASK YOU AGAIN." (police back-up arrives)

(getting out of car) "If you would just look at this screen..." (pointing iPhone at the officer).

"HE'S GOT A WEAPON!!! TAKE HIM DOWN!!!"

bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang! bang!

*thump.

The iPhone would be the same as any gauge if setup to use the OT-2. You wouldn't be staring at a gauge all the while you driving (well some might which would cause accidents). You can mount the iPhone on the dash for quick glances or keep the iPhone in the top tray on center armrest console like I usually do to occasionally glance at it or not at all but keeping it secure.

RE: Trip Computer Upgrade
y'all have met some nice officers... the first Police Officer I ever met was in my Camaro, when I was 17, and I was going very fast, and he was very VERY mad. Swearing and everything...

Good news was he didn't have a laser gun and he couldn't get a speed from pacing me, so all he did was yell at me and give me a warning/scolding.

I have yet to meet any CHP or LAPD Officers here on the California freeways.

my biggest concern is the ease of use. I mean, if I was the passegner, I would love to watch the telemetries as we were driving... the bad part is that as the driver, I also want to stare and see the data. lol.

If I could find a good mounting solution, which I have yet to find, then it wouldn't be sush a big deal. None of the accessories at the electronics store would work, and I've been looking for a long time, for both the Forte and my old car (and I never found one for my old car).
i wonder if I could mount in over the right-side of the guage cluster... with the real time fuel economics, I wouldn't need to see my fuel guage... hmmm...

ipad2 smart covers
iPad 2 cases
ipad2cover

I keep my own mileage numbers, but it would be cool to have the instantaneous numbers and the distance-to-empty figures.

They make an app for the iPhone for like $180 that will turn the iPhone into a pretty capable computer, but I like to keep things OEM as much as possible.

If anyone has any info, it would be much appreciated.

which computer do you like to play?
I LIKE THE IPAD
