best suspension mod?
Hey, just picked up a 2010 Koup SX this Saturday. I love it so far. The only thing I really think needs improving is the handling. I'm coming from a Mazda3 so I'm use to a very tight suspension and I do miss it. Other than lowering the car and using stiffer shocks/struts, what would suspension mod do yall suggest I do first? Maybe a upgraded rear sway? lower tie brace? front strut tower bar? Just wondering what you guys think would off the most improvement in handling.
My Mazda was lowered with Koni yellows and had an upgraded rsb in case anybody was curious.

If money is no object, do all of it. If you have to do it over time, I'd do the sway bar first.

RE: best suspension mod?
okay, thats what I was thinking too. how easy is the install? Can I just jack the rear up and bolt it up? Or is there more to it?
Also, is there any real benefit to the front strut tower brace other than engine bling? I know in my mazda the struts were so close to the firewall that the brace wasn't really needed in any way. I looked at my Koup's strut towers and they are practically welded to the firewall. Am I correct in assuming there is no realistic benefit to the brace? Thanks btw!

RE: best suspension mod?
If you look at the front strut bars that are available they have thin metal on each end where they attach to the strut tower -- I don't see how those thin connectors can help with body flex. The fact that the strut towers are so close to the firewall makes them pretty stiff.
I like my Kias with their 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty! |

Tires. Tires always have the biggest effect on the cars handling. The suspension on my sedan is pretty good but I can always tell that it's the tires that are at the limits and not to mention noisy.

I agree, but at this point, its the body roll that I'm worried about.

All the guys that got the eibachs say the car feels more planted. Really though body roll? I don't get much body roll in the sedan. That is to say that when I push the car hard enough I can feel it's the tires that are about to lose grip before the body starts to lean too much. The compound on the Goodyear LS2 seems a bit too hard, and that also contributes to road noise. |
