Power Sunroof - Is it supposed to auto-close??
We took our '10 Forte Sedan in for maintenance today, and to fix an issue with the ASC light coming on, and to fix a sunroof issue. We get it back, and now when we slide the button to close the sunroof it won't auto close. I have to hold the button forward for the sunroof to close, where before, if I slid it all the way and let go, it would auto-close. It still auto-opens, so that works. My local dealership where we had the warranty work done assures me it isn't supposed to auto-close, but the button has to remain held in to work. Anyone know for sure if this is true? Were we malfunctioning when it was auto-closing?

Thanks,

Bill

If your sunroof was auto closing it was defective. It is designed with an auto-open but to close it you have to hold the button forward -- it is a safety feature (no auto close to pinch a neck or finger).

RE: Power Sunroof - Is it supposed to auto-close??
That is really strange then, because I found in the manual the instructions for making it auto-close.. I even showed it to the service manager after I got out of work (which is where I posted the original message from), and he said he thought it was supposed to auto-close, but that the tech told him it wasn't.. He had to order a brake controller to repair the erroneous ASC light problem I was having, but said they would fix the sunroof issue when the part came in.

Check page 92 of the PDF file (or section 4-27 of the manual). It is strange...

Thanks,

Bill

To close the sunroof automatically:
Push the sunroof control lever forward (2) to the second detent position and then release it. The sunroof will automatically close all the way.
To stop the sunroof sliding at any point, pull or push the sunroof control lever momentarily.

RE: Power Sunroof - Is it supposed to auto-close??
Check your switch -- can do it without power on -- push it back lightly and then with a little more force. You will feel the detent for the auto close position. If you do this forward there is no detent for an auto position. This is in my 2 Fortes (sedan and Koup).

If your switch has a detent when pushing forward then you must have the capability to autoclose.

Those that have an auto close feature where are you located -- could this be by locale...some do and some don't?

RE: Power Sunroof - Is it supposed to auto-close??
Neither of my Forte's sunroofs auto close...I do not feel the detent (second click) when pushing the button forward to close the sunroof...I only feel the detent in the rearward (opening) position.

Might be interesting to try the sunroof reset in the owners manual to see if they can be changed...but I don't feel the detent in the switch (same feeling in the drivers window switch with auto open feature).
