I do the first one at 1000. Anyone that cares about prolonging the engine will do the first one at 1000 miles. It gets the break in debris out of the engine and the sooner the synthetic gets in, the better. It's not a requirement, but is a good idea, and recommended by many mechanics.

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
You really should do your first oil change a bit earlier than normal. The initial oil/filter change will catch the majority of the metal that is associated with the break-in period.

I did mine too, as early as 1500 miles. it was free and they did it. Niow it's time to do another one. this time I do it myself. the first one was free.

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
Getting my first oil change this Saturday by Kia using good 'ol conventional...Would rather get the synthetic thrown in for the first one but at this point we have 2 payments we just made and finishing paying the down payments so this will help me out. Least it's getting done earlier. I should have about 1600-1700 by Saturday. Not bad.

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
weather and laziness keeps me from changing the oil. i gotta go look up the filter suggestions on that other thread again. deciding between mobile, K&N and bosch. Bosch just looks fancy Tongue I'm a little past 2k now... hopefully this Saturday on my day off.

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
Got my oil changed Saturday at 1680 miles. When I called the service department to schedule they gave me s**t about using my free oil change when I only had that many miles on it..So after telling them that my miles didn't matter, and it was my free oil change, they finally gave up on trying to get me to wait. The service manager made a comment about my oil probably not even looking dirty, so it got me thinking that they may try to do something shady so I scratched up my oil filter so I could tell if they actually changed it and tried to eyeball where my oil level was. I noticed when it was completed that there was a lil oil spilled on the valve cover, and the oil filter didn't have any scratches so it looks like they did the job correctly.

I didn't go with synthetic this oil change, they used Castrol 5w20. Going to try to have my oil done around 3000 mi., and have the synthetic thrown in. Probably will go with Mobil1 5w30 and same brand oil filter, or Wix.
