PLEASE HELP!!!
ok so august 2 i got my new 2010 forte sedan ex.
The car has nothing special except it does have the fuel economy package.
For those who are unaware the FEP is tougher tires, less air resistance, and a smoother 5 speed automatic. It is said to get 27 city 36 hwy.
HERES THE PROBLEM!!!
the car has about 950 miles on it now but it is still consistently getting only 21 mpg city.
I drive with the ECO light on almost the whole ride. I dont speed much and the car is still drinking gas.
I called KIA and they said something about a 7,000 mile break in where i was told by every dealer for all new cars the almost no break in is needed.
I am wondering why the car would only get 21 city.
Does anyone get 21 when you got yours brand new or did it get the 25 its supposed to?(w/o FEP)

Also i am not sure if this is why but when my car is idling with no A/C the rpm is 1000. does evryone else run at 1000 while idling??????

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
The EPA ratings are an estimate. What kind of geography do you live in -- Is it hilly/mountainous or flat? If it is hilly/mountainous then I don't think you'd hit the 27 city. Do you have stop lights at every intersection? How often you have to stop will have a profound effect. Make sure you are checking your mileage by dividing the car's mileage by the number of gallons you put in it -- do not always count on the dash information. Do you have a small fuel leak by any chance?

Idle should be closer to 600 RPM w/o AC on. If it stays at 1000 RPM take it in and have them look at it.

I like my Kias with their 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty!

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
I live in a very suburban flat land with not much stopping compared to a city.

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
Get 26mpg 100% city, and no Eco BS and just over 900 miles on my EX sedan. How's the air pressure in your tires, and what gas are you using?

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
I think there is a break in. I only say that because I am now nearing 6,000 Miles on my car and it definitely gets better gas mileage than when I first got it. When I was driving around the city (with the air on) I was only averaging 15.5 MPG. Yes 15! And on Roadtrips with air on I still average about 33-36MPG on HWY. Now in City, with air on and everything I average about 24MPG. It varies from time to time. But I haven't seen it go below 20mpg in awhile. As a matter of fact it usually stays at 24 for my normal day driving. I've taken a few road trips and that's when I get into the 30's.

My wife just filled up this afternoon, and reports the Forte got 27mpg 100% city. Can't wait to see what it goes to when I do the 1000 mile oil change with synthetic this weekend.Wink

RE: PLEASE HELP!!!
I have the Fuel Economy package too. The break in did not take more than 2,000 miles. With 9,000 miles on it I consistently break 30 MPG commuting. I have gotten as high as 38.5 on long trips. Ask them to check it out.
