I took this pic off Google. It's the best way I can explain it. If you touch the panel that the USB/12V Ports are on and run your finger upward you will find in that area a raised portion about 1/4" higher. This is where I mounted the LED and it was a perfect fit. You can't miss it. Since it's slightly raised higher the LED isn't noticeable unless your on the floor looking up. Then I ran the wiring behind the dash and into the fuse box. There is so much empty space behind the dash you really don't have to really look hard to find a space.

BTW...I have to say the color is 95% identical to the dash lights so it looks pretty much stock and most of the light is contained in that lil compartment. It isn't distracting at all. At least not to me.

where'd you get the LEDs? website?

I'd also love to do this to my Forte. I've been experimenting with mounting points for lighting under my dash and everything, but I haven't thought about anything near the center console.

RE: My first modification...Very small mod
I just bought the 8" RED FLEXI LEDS from Autozone...$12.99 for a set of 2 but I only used 1 of them. My reasons for going there were, 1)Because my buddy can get me a discount 2)If they go out my buddy will replace them for free. 3) For reasons 1 and 2!!! Really I just wanted to experiment. The only reason I would buy from someplace else is if Autozone didn't have them in stock but considering they did and for reasons 1 and 2, it made more sense for me to go there.

The main reason I lighted the center console was because I work 12 hour shifts so I go to work in the dark and leave in the dark. I am constantly plugging in my Droid, USB flash drive or MP3 player in so I had to constantly turn on the overhead light which got a little annoying on the freeway in the dark. I just thought this made more sense so for me it was a personal choice.

Did you use an existing fuse tap or add in your own?

Existing fuse....and the LED draws such a small amount of current you would barely notice it!

Awesome! I'm looking into a 10" since I can't find an 8", but this should be a fun mod. Smile

Yea it took me literally 15 minutes top...And yes, if you are going for a little extra light then this is a great option! I guess I will allow you to take my idea, since I haven't patented it yet! Haha....
