2010 Fuel Economy - Real World Results?

So I have a question for any Koup owners. I have a 2010, 2.0 Forte, bought it new back in Nov 10. And I'm really happy with the car. But I'm not getting the fuel economy I'd come to expect of a smaller car. I'm getting averages of 27-29mpg combined city/hwy. I know that's purely subjective based on driving habits.

A normal day, I drive 57mi one way to work. And that's all highway. I cruise between 70-80mph all the time. So 95% of my driving is highway. Yet I can barely get above 30mpg, and that's when I keep it under 70mph. Which just don't happen in Michigan. Hell my Dodge Stratus got 30-31 consistently.

Anyway, i love the car. But I'm not loving the economy. One thing I noticed and never really thought to question it, is the gas cap doesn't appear to snap tightly down. You know on most cars, when you screw down the gas cap? Its ratchets and clicks multiple times? Mine don't. In fact, when I turn it clockwise it just snugs up tightly, but no clicks. Is that a design feature? Or I'm wondering if something is wrong with it. I know when you forget to cap the gas tank, it ruins fuel economy. Only reason I thought of it. I'm also just curious what other people are getting out of their koups as well.

Any suggestions?

The published fuel economy is summer based with A/C off. Gas right now is still winter mix, which drops the number by 10-15%. Run the defroster for anytime (which turns the A/C compressor on), and you can take another 15-20% off. April 1 the winter mix starts coming off the market in most areas. Oh, and that ethanol crap also rapes you of mileage.

^ Yep to what he said...and the gas cap is normal -- just one-click. You'll get used to it. It's supposed to be better than the ratcheting style.

I have trouble getting used to it -- my wife's Forte Sedan has the ratchet style while my Forte Koup has the one-click style...LoL! Kia changed to the one click style shortly after the '10 models came out.

Ok, so the gas cap is a normal feature then. Hmm, just feels weird not hearing the clicks is all. And yeah, I didn't consider that, fuel being a winter mix right now. Plus I have a autostart, and living in Mich, I have my defrost cranked this time of year for the morning startups. So I guess that all fits together.

Hopefully in the next 2-3mo I'll noticed a change in those numbers. Thx everyone.
