I'm a new member in this forum. We own a 2015 Forte EX that we bought used from my work dealership in Seattle. It was a former rental car from Oklahoma but was not beat to death by its renters. Other than tires, front brake pads and a battery, it has been a very good vehicle. We did receive notification from KIA/Hyundai of the engine recall because of its manufacturing errors on not clearing the millwork shavings out of the crankshafts that can lead to oil starvation to the entire engine, resulting to total engine failure. We have done the "preliminary" recall action, which is to only update the software on the "knock sensor", which also then extended out the warrant period another 20k miles. We currently only have 74,500 in this vehicle. I just had a issue where, only in this 4000 mile oil change interval, the engine had consumed 2.7 quarts of oil within this period. The KIA dealership told me that KIA feels that using 1 quart per 1000 miles is an acceptable amount of use. That means that it's OK that your car will burn off nearly the whole amount of crankcase oil at an oil change with a filter replacement and this is OK with KIA/Hyundai for this to continue to happen? I thought we were trying to reduce the carbon footprint in this world of ours. Excessive oil consumption by any other combustion engine manufacturer usually is a concern for any other car builder. Does it seem right for KIA/Hyundai to be "ignoring" the problem with these poorly manufactured engines and shouldn't they just step up and address the issue head-on, since they are a global corporation and their reputation is on the line? Or am I overthinking this issue? Open for answers and discussion.
