My car only has about 125K mi on it, was driving home from a 3 hr road trip and the check engine light came on. I pulled into a city that had an O'Reilly's to have them run a code check on it. It came back with a most likely solution of Replacing the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Canister Vent Valve with suggested parts of the Vapor Canister Shut-Off Valve and the Fuel Tank Breather Filter. O"Reilly's said they could sell me the shut off valve for $32.99 (dealer wanted $352.91- something about sold as a hold assembly) but the Fuel Tank Breather Filter wasn't available- said a dealer part only. Dealer quoted $20.95.

The guy at O'Reilly's said that replacing the Vapor Canister Shut Off Valve was a YT video away, as he had owned a KIA previously but wasn't familiar w/the Fuel Tank Breather Filter, said his KIA had the filter attached to something- can't remember what exactly.

Anyhow, it was also suggested that sometimes replacing the gas cap can do the trick and can trigger the codes to come on. I live in a rural area, so would like to limit the # of special trips, but also am nervous about driving w/the check engine light on. And, of course cost is a factor.

Just looking for anyone who might have experience with replacing either of these parts. My car is running fine. I honestly don't recognize significant fuel loss, but then I don't drive it but maybe a couple times a week.

TIA for any help/ suggestions.
