I came across this yesterday while drying my car. I initially thought some how the car got gouged by something. I quickly started to get pissed. It is at the bottom of the car on the passenger side just before the rear wheel well. Then I noticed it on the other side as well. Upon closer look it is a rectangle box etched into the sheet metal. See attached pic.

Anybody have an idea what this is about?

It is a chip guard for rocks flying from the front wheels. Clearcoat thingy. Seen it when I first looked at the car in showroom.

:word:

Most new cars come with it. It's the same principle as the clear bras that people are getting installed now. The weather has been too crap-tastic around here since I bought my car to keep it clean enough to even notice that Kia's came with these. My Sierra Denali had them and they really seemed to help.

I guess Hyundai's too? My friend has a 2009 Elantra, so now I'll have to look for it.

should be. pretty standard on ALL new cars... when i worked for toyota (last year) they had them as well lol

Yep my Ex Sedan has them....Was going to take them off but then figured what was the harm of having them on??? If it aint broke don't fix it...

i like that saying, "If it aint broke dont fix it." haha, i thought the same thing.
