What's the preference in terms of looks and actual protection?

How hard are they to put on yourself the first time?

I say get the deflector. The protector is just like a small leather bra that sits right on your hood. The protector is a piece that attaches to the hood but rests on top without actually touching the top of the hood. It looks better and protects better. Installation is easy just pop off the rubber piece under the center of the hood, push in the grommets that come with the protector, screw it in and use the clips to attach the ends to the hood. In my opinion its much nicer-Good Luck

Dealing with a 'bra' is a labor of love. It needs to be consistently removed and cleaned to keep from damaging your paint. I've had several of them, and I enjoyed the protection, but if you're not pretty anal about care & maintenance, you'll end up damaging your paint with a bra.

I got the deflector for my Koup and while I wish it 'deflected' more instead of simply protecting the front edge of the hood, it was a good investment. I've still managed to get a couple of chips in my hood, about 4 inches behind the rear edge of the deflector.

My next brand new car will have 3M film installed on the bumper, hood, the front surfaces of the fenders.
