KIA patches?

On my EX Koup I noticed patches near both rear wheel wells...On driver side the metal patch would be to the left of the rear wheel...on passenger side the patch would be to the right of the rear wheel...Both the same size and metal?? Like they were filling something open...???Anybody else see them??? If so what are they?

they're to prevent rust. i forget what they're made of, but most new cars have them

They're plastic protectors...rock chip protection.
