ConceptVBS said:Ways to improve gas mileage:
1. Go easy on the accelerator. Slow acceleration, slow deceleration.
2. Lose that belly.
3. Fill up your tire air pressure.
4. Coast when your going down hill, do the same when your approaching a stop sign/stop light.
5. Staying behind a large truck on the highway to push air out of your way (Caution: be carefuly doing this).
6. Switch to synthetic engine oil. (Generates less heat, slightly more slippery, has better protection for engine parts over the long run. It also removes gunk that will eventually build up inside the engine)
7. Switch to sythetic transmission oil as well
8. Put gas in the morning or the evening. ( During the day time, fuel expands due to heat from the sun. Your getting LESS gas for the same amount of money).
9. Make one long time vs frequent smaller trips. Combine errands into one rather than spacing them out through out the week.
10. Clean your car. Lose unneccesary things inside the car that adds weight. More weight on the car = more engine power = less gas mileage.
11. Invest in a GPS with traffic alert. It will save your the hassle of being stuck in traffic, help you get to work on time, and save you gas.( Some feature "eco route" feature that suggests the most fuel efficient route to take.)
Hope that helps.![]()
Rekoup said:#5 is tricky: Depending on where the air is hitting your car, you can DECREASE mileage by "drafting" a truck.
#8 most tanks are 20' down now, so the ground temperature doesnt affect the gas temperature much, and took several hours to change + or - . We proved this in 1988 when I was in college. Got gas samples in graduated cylinders and took temp readings. Also took 5 gallons at 40 degrees and heated to 114 degrees, was negligible expansion. You'll get more gas holding the hose up after you shut it off, but then you're driving with the weight of a full gas tank around to start.
Oh we also proved liquid gasoline doesnt burn even with a 200KV spark in a 1/8" gap. "Flooding". Was so much fun.
#6 I may go with AMS OIL and see what happens. Everyone I know swears by it.
