Enviros on the 'Kia Forte Forums . com' site (thread titled "best throttle mod ever) appears to have identified the reason for the manual tranny owners having to re-"learn" how to get a smooth take-off from a stop.

The throttle has a "Dead Spot" requiring about 5/16" before the engine responds. This has been proven with diagnostics checks.

The dead spot can be adjusted-out by repositioning a cover on the accelerator pedal. There is a cover with 5 cross-point screws that can be adjusted to take out the "dead Spot". It is easier to adjust by taking the whole assembly out -- 2 10MM nuts and one 10 MM bolt and disconnect the wire harness and it's free. The top most screw on the cover has to be taken out (or backed out most of the way) and the four adjustable screws loosened to move the cover.
