My tires only had 36 psi when I bought it 2 months ago, I checked the tiers & i says 51 psi, so I filled them to 51, was I wrong???

51 sounds dangerously high. The door sticker for my EX sedan (15" wheels/tires) says 32 psi per tire is ideal. If I were you, I'd take some air/nitrogen out.

I know but that's what it says on the tires that cam on the car 51 PSI
I also have a 2003 Pontiac Grand AM GT1 w/ P225/50/R16 Dunlops & they also call for 51 PSI

I'll have to check my sticker but why would it say differently if the tires have ont hem 51 PSI?

The tires show the max psi that the tire can handle. The door sticker on the car will show the optimum pressure for the car's weight with that tire to give it a proper foot print. By over inflating your tires; you have decreased that foot print which means less stopping and traction ability. You also have caused the suspension to over work because just like an over inflated ball; your tires are bouncing like crazy.
