Hi, Everyone!

I just bought a 2010 Forte Koup SX & am really excited about having it. I've got several questions that I hope you may be able to help me with.
First, the service manager at the dealer where I purchased my Koup very emphatically said that I should not use anything other than a factory Kia oil filter on my car. To do otherwise could void the warranty! This sounds incredible to me!
Second, can anyone give me an idea what I can expect mileage-wise once I get a few mile on it? I've only got 200 & it's the five-speed auto.
Third, for whatever reason, my car didn't come with a external thermometer. It seems to have everything else - leather w/seat heaters & sunroof. Anyone know of any good after-market possibilities?

Thanks for the help! I look forward to a long relationship with my Kia and this Forum!!

Welcome to Sal's site

Expect 24-28 MPG in town, 31-34 MPG on the highway. Your driving habits will have more to do with MPG...LoL!

I disagree with the dealer about the filter...however, since I change my own oil I do buy the Kia filters so that I have a history of buying them at the dealer for any future warranty issues. Kia does have a TSB (not a recall) about using aftermarket oil filters -- states that some filters can affect the CVVT system so that is probably why your dealer said something to you.

Don't have an answer on the external temp question...I just roll down the window if I need to check on the outside temp...LoL!

The 2010 models don't come with an outside thermometer but the 2011 (and I sure future Fortes) do. I am not too sure of any aftermarket possibilities, however I would like to hear them if someone knows.

Just stay away from Fram filters and you'll be ok. It was the Frams that created the issue that led to the TSB to only use Kia filters. All others work great. I use WIX filters on mine and have no issues.
