2nd Gear symptom :

Shifting into what feels like a wall before second gear

is it the cold in Canada right now ?

Anyone getting this ?

thanks a lot !

i get the same thing if i don't let the engine warm up long enough and take off too fast. once the engine warms up, the problem does not exist for me.

I experience this in 1st gear when I first get into the car. After I drive for a bit it is fine. Very weird!

Ya I have the same thing too when its cold. I havent driven a manual since I was like 17 is this normal?

Same thing here too. When it's cold the second gear is hard to engage. I will see what will happend at -20º before getting it check by the dealer.
Right now I just remote start it.
My Talon did this too, couple weeks before I had to rebuilt the tranny!

I don't know if it's because I get use to it or else but it's much smoother lately!

ok happy to see that I'm not the only one !

Class action !! haha

The manual tranny is definatly not the smoothest I've driven; but I knew this prior to purchasing and still went with the manual. For me, we have hit -20 a couple nights here already. Cold starts are pretty good, but yes the manual transmission seems to require a few more minutes than the 3 or less stated in the manual. I have experienced the "wall effect" for sure and I definatly associate it with the cold. Prior to this, I drove an 07 wrangler sahara w/ a 6spd manual. It did the same thing, infact much worse than the Forte. I simply drive for half a KM in second, and the shifting is fine. I would just let it warm up more, but the manual says... blah blah blah. I wonder if at idle, if I was to clutch down and shift through all the gears a couple times if it would warm up enough to shift fine in the 3 minute max warm up. Any thoughts?

Have you tried changing the transmission fluid to a synthetic? Motul is a good brand to get. It should help out with the "clunky" ness.

that may help, but you shouldn't be having to do this after having the car for what? a month or so, right?

you can get a remote start in a car w a manual transmission?

Remote starter for manuals cost an additional 150 dollars for Autostart brand anyways.

i didnt think it could be done... im supposing you have to leave the car in neutral if you wanna use it then?

It goes like this: Put the car in neutral, crank handbrake, relaese the (floor)brake and remove the key. If everything was done correctly the engine will keep running untill you open AND close the driver door. If you open ANY door it will desarm itself.
At least that's how mine work!
It's realy a cool feature.
