I just bought a brand new 2010 Kia Forte Koup.
When is my FIRST oil change supposed to be?

All I can find in the manual is the first MAINTENANCE appointment which includes an oil change (7500 miles or 6 months)
Is this the first oil change? Or am I supposed to do it sooner?

That's when you are suppose to do it. But if you're smart, like me:angel:, I did the first one at 1000 miles to get the break in crap out. I also switched to Mobil 1 at that time.
 
I did mine at 636 miles. Factory installed oil is evil. :-) Not really, but it can be contaminated with wear metals, fuel and condensation, so I like to get rid of it sooner than the manufacturer recommends.

According to my resources and by my experience change it as soon as you get it home. Then another change at 1,000 miles. Then commence to back seal the engine through ever increasing rpm speeds the next 500 miles. Some continue with this fill through the first OCI of the OEM or 5,000 miles. I prefer to get out that funck and change it running the next fill to the OEM or 3,000 miles. Then select your favorite brand/chemistry and drive and service as normal.

Oil wise, whatever you prefer. I prefer Mobil 1. Filter wise, stay away from Fram. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache. I prefer Wix or Purolator.
 
I did mine at 1500 miles, and changed to a synthetic after wear in on the 3rd oil change. I also use a wix filter. 5w-20 synthetic oil. I am using a no-name synt due to cost, I usually use royal Purple. [/u]
 
I was told by the selling dealer to have the first oil change three months after I bought the car, which will make it mid-April. The dealer also said they use a "synthetic blend." Not sure what that means, but since the first one is "free" I'll go with it!
