Hello Forte owners! I bought EX Koup about 3 weeks ago...It had a hard start problem...New fuel pump (already?) was the answer...But since then, a week ago, my fuel gauge is inaccurate...it indicates that I have about a quarter tank more gas then what's there...I went in for service with 1/2 tank of gas, came out with 3/4...I called the service dept. on my cell and was told it's probably more correct now...Not! I filled it up...while it said I had 3/4 tank it filled up like there was 1/2...7.1 gallons...
Today I filled up again because of pending threat of Tropical storm here in S. Florida...The gauge was at 3/8 tank, 1/8 away from 1/2 a tank...but it took 7.5 gallons instead of maybe the 5 or so it should have taken if it really was at 3/8...I'm not fond of going to the service portion of the dealership...Been there 3 times already with the hard start/fuel pump bit...
I was told by friend to let the gas level get real low then fill up and it might reset itself...???
I'm not sure the gas low light will go on???

What's going on? Am I doing the car harm if I don't fly right over to service...The new fuel pump did fix the hard start...but left my gauge-less...I'm not sure what I'll be left with if I get the gauge looked at? No back seat???

Your dealer is the right person to answer your problem...

I am not a techy guy but on my personal view, its something to do with the fuel pump....the pump works also as a floater which is giving details to the level of your fuel...

Maybe because you have some issue with the pump before, computer have to calibrate your new pump accordingly to your car...

just me 1cent.

Welcome to the site! :D

Sucks to hear you're having problems with the car already! If you're going to try and let the low fuel light come on, I would carry a can of gas with me....sounds like you might go empty before the light ever comes on.

I would definitely take it back to the dealer either way.

Thanks to both...I will take it to dealer...it's just that going there is like being on the other end of a Mel Gibson phone call...But seriously, am I doing the car harm by waiting a little bit...until maybe something else happens or an oil change???

Thanks for your reply...
If the gauge read 1/2 tank I would be happy with 7...but it read 3/8 which would be about 5 gallons...and at 3/8 I actually took 7.5 gallons...The gauge is about 2.5 gallons off...and in a tank that has 13.7 capacity that's a big difference...I just want to know now if I can wait until I have to go back there for something else/oil change...or do I need to get it done as soon as possible...thanks again to all who replied...

Try this trick. Disconnect both the positive and negative cables from the battery. Hold them together for 5-10 minutes making sure not to touch them to the battery. By doing this, you will drain all residual power from all electronics in the car. This should reset everything. If it's because the car's software is in a weird state, this should fix it. If it doesn't fix it, then the sender unit is bad. If there is another Kia dealer available, take it to them. They might have some intelligent techs.;)

ItsaRuck! If I didn't think that through I would have guessed you were from the dealership where I've been participating in their 'how can we torture you now.' My first impression was they have figured out I'm writing here and came up with a way to off me...(Obviously I'm joking?) That's a pretty cool idea and as soon as I'm brave enough I'll try it...Thanks!

There's really nothing brave about it. It's just a rapid way or resetting all the brains in the car to their factory defaults. I had to do it on my last car when the rear wiper started operating in a weird way.
