I'm on vacation right now. I was listening to tunes on a thumb drive, and up to now I have been following the manual's instructions to remove the drive every time I shut the car off. Well, one time I didn't and upon starting the car, the tune that was playing started up right where it left off. Needless to say, since that time, I've recycled the drive through that scenario dozens of times with the same results. So the manual is wrong and by leaving the drive plugged in you don't have to endlessly go back to the beginning every time you start the car. Just leave it plugged in.

I think it's more of KIA protecting themselves from someone saying your car ruined my Ipod, Ipod Touch, Iphone or any other mp3 player.

I believe it is a similar situation to ejecting Flash Drives from your computer before you pull them out. You'll get a warning, but you won't see any damage until you repeat it enough times to shut down the flash drive.

As long as it is surge resistant it is safe to leave in.....my 4 gig has been in for over 3 weeks now but if it dies they are dirt cheap now.
